MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell on Sunday to the #15 Florida Southern Moccasins 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer action at Buccaneer Field.

The Mocs (8-3-2, 4-1-0 SSC) scored twice in 1:30 minutes in the first half. Kerri-Ann Brown took the ball away from the Buccaneer defense and scored into an empty net at 30:55. At 32:25, Brown’s header rebounded off the post and Barry’s Mikaela Barboza accidentally punched it into the goal for a 2-0 FSC lead.

Barry got one goal back in the 69th minute. Melissa Madrid flicked a header toward the far post that appeared to be headed in, but FSC’s Ashley Haas stepped in front to knock it away, giving the Bucs a corner. Miranda Goransson served a perfect strike into the box, finding the head of Emma Karp who flicked it in for her 18th goal of the season. Karp’s 18 goals on the season tie her with 2000 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year Ashley Snell for eighth on the Barry single season list.

Barboza had six saves for the Bucs, while Katie Lamendola knocked away a shot by Southern’s Jessica Giblin in the second minute of the game. In addition to Haas’ save, Martina Tangen had five saves in goal.
