ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team walked away with a four-set win (25-15, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17) over the Eckerd College Tritons on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Barry moves to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.
 
The Bucs took the first set as the team combined for a .300 attack percentage. The Tritons kept it close early as Barry led 12-10 before going on a 6-2 run to go up 18-12. Julia Teixeira, Ady Alcantara, Libby Walter and Milena Bukinac had kills in the run. After a Triton point, Barry took seven of the final eleven points to take the 25-17 win in set one.
 
Set two was much closer than the first as the teams were close throughout. Eckerd held a 10-7 lead in the early going before three Triton errors tied it up at 10-10. Neither team took more than a two point lead through the remainder of the set.
 
Up 22-20, Barry committed two errors to let the Tritons back in the game with a 22-22 tie. The teams traded points through 24-24 before Barry scored the final two off a Stefanie Sveiven kill and a Bukinac service ace. Barry won set two 26-24.
 
In the third set, the Tritons worked out to an early 9-4 lead and extended it to 18-10. The Bucs got close at 23-19 after taking three straight points, but the Tritons went on to win set three 25-20.
 
Barry turned the tables in the fourth set and worked out to their own lead of 14-9 with the help of six combined kills from Teixeira and Alcantara. Eckerd got within five points at 18-15, but the Bucs went on to close out the set 25-15 to take the four-set win.
 
For the Bucs, Teixeira had 17 kills to lead the offense. Sveiven had 13 and Alcantara had 12 while the team hit .312 for the match. Barry combined for 5 aces and nine total blocks.
 
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Lynn to take on the Knights for the second time this season. Fans can catch all the action live on GameCentral.
