LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a 56-48 decision in Pruitt Hall to the West Alabama Tigers to open the women’s basketball season on Saturday.
The Bucs (0-1) closed to within one point, 44-43 on a jumper by Shanna Suttington with 9:51 left in the second period. But the Bucs hit only two of 18 shots from the field down the stretch and the Tigers capitalized to build a couple of nine-point leads before settling for the eight-point victory.
Suttington led the Bucs with 14 points, while Adrienne Hicks added 11. Freshman Mazel Huyler came off the bench for eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Latashia Greer led the Tigers (1-0) with 14 points, while Mystee Dale had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Bucs face the Columbus State Cougars on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
