MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Yvonne Houston scored a career-high 23 points as the Barry Buccaneers grounded the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles 71-61 in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday night.
 
The Eagles (2-1), who trailed by two at the half, cut the lead to one point, 36-35, at 17:56 of the second half on a jumper by Bri Zabel. But the Buccaneers (3-2) responded with a 13-3 run over the next 4:21 to grab a 49-38 lead. The Eagles closed to within four at 54-50 as Zabel hit a three-pointer with 10:05 left, but Barry scored the next 10 points, capped by a Shanna Suttington three-pointer and Crookston never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
 
Crookston shot 58.8 percent in the first half, but the Bucs had twice as many chances, launching 34 shots to the Eagles’ 17 in the period. The Bucs forced 15 turnover and grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the half. The Eagles led 30-27 with 0:48 seconds left in the period after Annessa Hicks’ free throws, but Barry scored the last five points as Houston hit a layup and Danielle DeBerry added a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 32-30 lead.
 
The Bucs held the Eagles, who came in averaging 99.5 points in two wins, to just 61 points, while topping 70 points for the second straihgt game.
 
In addition to Houston’s 23 points, Adrienne Hicks had 13, Suttington had 12 and Deberry added 11. Brittani Wiese led the Eagles with 14 points. Zabel added 13 and Jamie Zelinsky had 11.
 
The Bucs open Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 4 as they host defending champs Tampa in the HSC at 2:00 pm.
