BOCA RATON, Fla.— The Barry University men’s basketball team dropped a 67-57 loss to the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds in the first game of the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic at Lynn University on Saturday evening. The Bucs (2-6) trailed by only one at halftime, but were outscored 41-32 in the second half.
The Bucs were led by Willie Whitfield who was one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Bryan Van Cott and Derrick Bolanos posted 10 apiece in the loss.
Coming out of the second half, the Greyhounds (6-2) went on a 13-5 run to take a 42-30 lead. Indianapolis took their largest lead of the game with 10:41 remaining when Wilbur O’Neal drove the lane and hit a layup to put Indianapolis up 46-33.
The Bucs fought back, going on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 46-42. Bolanos scored five points in the run while Whitfield sank a pair of free throws and Vladimir Raymonvil hit a shot in the lane.
Yet, the Greyhounds proved too much, outscoring the Bucs 21-15 down the stretch to take the win.
