MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers completed their final tune up prior to the start of Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball play with a 71-29 win over the Wilmington (Del.) Wildcats at Lynn University’s Courtyard by Marriott Christmas Classic in the deHoernle Center on Thursday.

The Buccaneers (7-3) grabbed the lead at the 18:51 mark of the first half when Danielle DeBerry sank a three-pointer from the right wing to erase a 2-0 deficit and never trailed.

The Bucs nearly eclipsed the school record for fewest points allowed set Jan. 26, 2005 in a 61-26 win over Lynn in the deHoernle Center. They had held the Wildcats (1-10) to just 24 points when Jamee Bush connected on a three-pointer from the left baseline with 0:47 seconds left. Amanda Walters flipped in a short scoop shot with two second remaining to give Wilmington 29 points total, the third straight game under 30 points for the Wildcats.

The Bucs had a balanced attack as they scored 71 points for the second straight game. Yvonne Houston led the way with 16 points. DeBerry added 11 points, all in the first half, and Shanna Suttington chipped in with 10. Glaucia Lehn had a great all-around game with nine points, a team-high nine rebounds, eight steals, five assists and four blocked shots. Jen Mitchell and Tasheema Lewis both came off the bench with eight points.

Erica MacFadyen led the Wildcats with seven points.

The Buccaneers play five of their next six games on the road as they dive into SSC play in earnest after the New Year. First up, they travel to the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday, Jan. 2 to face the Eckerd Tritons.
