WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry women’s basketball team took the #14 Rollins Tars to the wire but came up short in a 46-43 loss on Wednesday in Sunshine State Conference action at Warden Arena.  
 
Barry (7-5, 0-3 SSC) started the game off with five unanswered points from an Adrienne Hicks three and then a layup from Yvonne Houston. Rollins (13-1, 2-1 SSC) rallied back to take a four point lead into the intermission.
 
Tars’ forward Amber Heistan hit a three from 25 feet out to give Rollins a seven point advantage on the first possession of the second half. After a Heistan layup then a Kristina Mingos three pointer, the Tars took their biggest lead of the game at 12 points.
 
Barry answered back with a 5-0 run from a Jen Mitchell three and a Houston layup to take the score to 30-23. Barry continued to scratch and claw their way back into the game with three-pointers from Mitchell and Shanna Suttington  to take the deficit down to two at 34-32 with 8:54 to play.
 
At the 7:11 mark, Houston connected with a three-pointer to give Barry their first lead of the game since the midway through the first half at 35-34. But with 1:30 to play, Paris Moore tied the game at 43-43 with a jumper in the paint. Rollins would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
The affair saw seven lead changes and four ties. Houston led Barry with 10 points and added three rebounds. Mitchell chipped in with nine. Daniel DeBerry tallied a team-leading eight rebounds and collected five points.
 
The next game for Barry is Saturday, Jan. 8 at home against the Florida Southern Mocs at 2:00 p.m. Coverage can be heard on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting just before tipoff.
