MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team picked up their fifth win of the season on Wednesday night with a 74-59 win over conference-rival Saint Leo. The Bucs trailed 25-18 at halftime, but outscored the Lions 56-34 in the second half.
The teams came out evenly matched in the first half before Barry used a 4-0 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Lions, however, outscored the Bucs 13-2 in the final minutes of the first to enter halftime on top.
Barry cut the deficit to just two, 36-38, on a Willie Whitfield layup with 12:38 remaining, and tied it up moment later off a Zack Trapp fast break layup with 12:00 remaining in the game.
Up 43-41 with 10:07 remaining, the Bucs turned on the gas, outscoring 20-2 over the next seven minutes to take a 63-45 lead with 3:20 left in the game. Whitfield had nine points in the run while Marvin Davis, Vladimir Raymonvil, and Evan White had three apiece.
The Lions tried to stay in it, but the Bucs maintained their strong lead, and went on to beat the ions 74-59.
Five Buccaneers reached double-digit points in the contest. Whitfield paced the Buccaneers with 22 points and nine rebounds. Raymonvil had 13 points while Van Cott had 12. White and Davis had 10 apiece.
The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Tampa to take on the Spartans at 4:00 pm. Fans can follow the action live at GameCentral.
