Men's Basketball Falls to Fighting Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry men’s basketball team collected a double-double from Willie Whitfield but lost to the Lynn Fighting Knights 74-54 on Saturday.

Whitfield totaled 12 points and 12 rebounds on the night and Evan White tied for the lead in scoring with 15 and three boards. Levon Williams started for Barry and added 10 points.

Barry trailed at the half 41-26 on 38 percent shooting and a 1-6 mark from behind the arc. Things did not get much better for the Buccaneers in the second half as they posted 36 percent shooting in the second period. 16 turnover on the game killed Barry as Lynn collected 16 points off Buccaneer turnovers.

Lynn shot lights out with a 49 percent mark form the field and amassed five double digit scorers.

On three occasions, Barry cut the Lynn lead down to 13. First, in the second half at the 15:49 mark after a Williams layup then with 13:53 left in the game on two Williams made free throws. Finally, at the 13:20 mark Barry narrowed the deficit back down to 13 but was unable to mount the comeback.

The next game for Barry is Wednesday, Feb. 23 as the Bucs take on Palm Beach Atlantic on senior night at 7:30 in the Health and Sports Center. Live coverage can be seen on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network starting just before tip-off.
