WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers swept a South Region doubleheader from the Kentucky State Thorobrettes (0-4) at the SSC/SIAC Crossover Tournament at Rollins’ Lake Island Park on Friday, winning the first game 8-0 in six innings and taking the nightcap 9-2.
Brianna Smith (1-3) picked up her first win of the season with a complete-game shutout in game one. She allowed four hits and a walk and struck out eight.
Sarah Broeseker tripled in Natalia Ojeda in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game to provide the eighth run and stop the game. The Bucs put four runs on in the fifth inning. Jessica Tabor and Kayla Monroy had RBI doubles and Smith added a two-run triple.
In the nightcap, Paula Mackin (3-1) went the distance, allowing two unearned runs on five hits while striking out eight.
Alyssa Goldsmith went two-for-three with three runs scored, while Hannah Shy had a two-run triple and Broeseker knocked in a pair with a single in the sixth.
The  Bucs (6-4) take on the Albany State Lady Rams on Saturday with the first game moved up to 1:00 pm.
