VALDOSTA, Ga.— The Barry University men’s tennis team (4-1) earned a 5-4 win against regional-opponent West Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs took one doubles match and four singles matches.
In doubles action, the Bucs win came at number three where Ollie Lamaitre and Sergio Velez defeated Lukas Larsson and Mike Lue 8-3.
Barry dropped the other two doubles matches with Leandro Ferreira and Andrey Pozhidaev beating the fifth-ranked team of Emanuel Fraitzl and Max Wimmer 8-4 at number one and Marco Mokrzycki and Quentin Vachez falling 9-7 to Domenico Sano and Jose Carlos Tolentin at number two.
In singles actions, the Bucs earned wins at numbers one, two, four and five. In the top spot, top-ranked Fraitzl defeated #15 Ferreira 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. At number two, #26 Wimmer beat #20 Pozhidaev 6-4, 6-4.
Velez beat Sean Gunnels 6-4, 6-4 in singles four. Lemaitre downed Lue 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at No.5.
Barry’s singles losses came at number three where Jose Tolentin beat Vachez (BUM) 6-3, 6-4 and at number six where Domenico Sano defeated Romain Costamagna 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow to face Georgia College at 1:00 pm
