MELBOURNE, Fla.—Brianna Smith pitched her third consecutive shutout, striking out 12, as the Barry Buccaneers opened up Sunshine State Conference softball action with a 3-0 win over Florida Tech in 10 innings on Tuesday at Nancy Bottge Field.

The Bucs (11-4, 1-0 SSC) scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning. Natalia Ojeda led off with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice by Sarah Broeseker. Grace Collins ripped a ground ball to Kara Dickinson at second base but the ball went under her glove and into right field, allowing Ojeda to score. After singles by Alyssa Goldsmith and Jessica Tabor loaded the bases, Smith lined a shot off the glove of Emily Densem at first base for an error and Collins and Goldsmith scored.

Smith (4-3) matched zeros with Tech pitcher Brianna Barth (5-5) through nine innings. Smith scattered six hits and three walks and struck out a career-high 12 batters. Barth, who allowed three runs (one earned), gave up 12 hits and walked eight, but struck out 14.
