WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team lost in the first round of the 2010 Sunshine State Conference Basketball Tournament on Wednesday evening. The eighth-seeded Bucs fell 83-62 to the top-seeded Rollins College Tars.
The Bucs (9-18, 5-11 SSC) and Tars (23-6, 13-3 SSC) were tied at 3-3 early when Evan White hit a three-pointer. The Tars, however, went on a 17-2 run over the next eight minutes to take a 20-5 lead.
Barry’s next points came at the 6:49 mark in the first half when Levon Williams drove the lane for a layup. Rollins, meanwhile, scored 12 more points to take a 32-9 lead. The Bucs scored sporadically in the final minutes of the first and entered halftime down 42-18.
Down 24 points to open the second half, the Bucs tried to cut into the deficit but Rollins continued their hot-streak, working out to their largest lead of the game, 70-31, with 10:58 remaining.
The Bucs outscored the Tars 22-5 over the next eight minutes to cut the lead to 22, 75-53, with 2:34 remaining. Vladamir Raymonvil, Marvin Davis, Willie Whitfield, Evan White, and Zack Trapp got involved on offense.
The Tars however, proved too strong, and the Bucs went on to fall 83-62. For the Bucs, Trapp led the way with 19 points. White had 13 and Whitfield had 10. Whitfield grabbed 9 boards to break the 800-rebound mark and finish his career with 808 rebounds.
