SAN DIEGO, Calif.— The Barry University men’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 match to NAIA Fresno Pacific on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs earned only one point apiece in doubles and singles.
In doubles, the Bucs win came at the second flight where Emanuel Fraitzl and Sergio Velez beat Cledson Carhalho and J. Sanchez-Canamares 8-5. In singles action, Ollie Lemaitre earned a point against Amarit Sanchez at No. 5, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Bucs lost two doubles matches. Quentin Vachez and Max Wimmer fell 8-3 to Kirill Sinitsyn and Xavier Smith. At number three, Sanchez and Mathan Martinet beat Marco Mokrzycki and Lemaitre 8-5.
In singles action, the Bucs lost five matches. Top-ranked NAIA player Sinitsyn beat Fraitzl 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at the top flight. At No. 2, Wimmer fell 6-0, 6-2 to Carvalho. Smith beat Mokrzycki 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 6-1 at number three. Martinet downed Velez 6-3, 6-4, and Sanchez-Canamares defeated Romain COstamagna 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 10-8 at #6.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow when they face UC San Diego at 1:00 pm pst.
