SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The second-ranked Barry University men’s tennis team moved to 7-4 on the year with a 6-3 win over fourth-ranked NAIA Azusa Pacific. The Bucs took two doubles matches and four singles matches for the win.
In doubles, #5 Emanuel Fraitzl and Max Wimmer downed Whitman Hough and Ilja Ikonnikov 8-3 at number two. In the third flight, Ollie Lemaitre and Sergio Velez beat Benedikt Eger and Daniel Moore 8-0.
At the top doubles flight, Marco Mokrzycki and Quentin Vachez fell 8-3 to Janosch Apelt and Jochem Hoefnagels.
In singles action, top-ranked Friatzl beat Apelt 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1. Wimmer, ranked 25th, beat Hoefnagels 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at the second flight. Vachez defeated Hough 7-5, 6-0 at #4, and Velez downed Ikonnikov 7-5, 6-4 at number six singles.
The Buccaneer two losses in singles came at numbers three and five. At No. 3, Mokrzycki fell to Benedikt 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 and Lemaitre retired against Frederik Wilkens at No. 5. Wilkens was up 7-6 (7-2), 4-3.
The Bucs return to action tomorrow for one more West Coast opponent when they take on Hawaii Pacific at 9:00 am.
