MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University baseball team downed the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for the second time this season at home on Tuesday evening. The Bucs won 8-6.
Both teams were scoreless though the top of the fifth. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bucs brought the bats as Lyndon Coleman hit a grand slam to left center scoring Manny Pedrozo, James Young, and Ryan Garcia. Later in the inning Dean Green hit a solo shot to right to give the Bucs the 5-0 lead.
The Sailfish scored one in the sixth and two in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-3. The Bucs, however, padded their lead in the bottom of the eighth with three runs off a hit, a passed ball, and a PBA error. Adrian English scored on a Dean Green double. Green scored on the passed ball, and Garcia scored on the error. The Bus went up 8-3.
PBA scored three runs in the ninth, but the Buccaneer defense remained resilient, allowing no more runs to take the 8-6 win.
Jordan Wellander threw seven innings for the Bucs, taking the win and moving to 1-1 on the season. Jeremiah Cothiere took the loss for PBA and moves to 2-1 on the year.
The Bucs return to action on this weekend when they host Saint Leo for a game on Friday evening and a doubleheader on Saturday.
