Baseball Continues Perfection in SSC Play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry baseball team remains perfect in conference play as the Buccaneers took a 7-0 win over the Saint Leo Lions on Friday.

Manny Rodriguez took the hump for Barry and moved to 5-2 on the season as he went eight innings and struck out six while only giving up seven hits.

Drew Dwelly jolted the Buccaneer offense by taking the 2-2 offering from Saint Leo starter Aaron Brandt over the center field fence to give Barry a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Adrian English walked and Dean Green then reached second on a dropped fly ball with English moving to third. Matt Petty collected two RBIs on a single up the middle and the Buccaneers posted a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

The Bucs didn’t score again till the fifth when Green blasted a solo homer to center field to make it 4-0. In the sixth Barry tallied two more runs. Ryan Garcia lead off the inning on first on a hit by pitch then James Young doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third with no outs. Garcia scored on a Harold Holness sacrifice fly then Young came across the plate as Green drew a bases loaded walk. After six, Barry held a commanding 6-0 lead.

In the seventh, Barry continued the onslaught as Young launched a solo bomb down the left field line to cap the Barry scoring for the game. Young posted a 2-3 night with one RBI and one home run.

Tyler Petsch came in to relieve Rodriguez in the ninth and retired Saint Leo in four batters to preserve the Barry shutout.
