MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry Buccaneers bounced back to sweep the doubleheader and win their Sunshine State Conference softball series from Florida Southern 10-8 in game one and 3-1 in the rubber game.

Through the first 12 innings of their Sunshine State Conference softball series, the Moccasins (15-13, 6-6 SSC) out-scored the Buccaneers (25-7, 11-1 SSC) 16-5, but it all changed in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bucs mounted the biggest comeback in school history. Barry scored nine runs in the inning to erase an 8-1 deficit.

Jessica Tabor, who drove in four in the game (three in the inning), ripped a two-run single to center with the score tied 8-8 to provide the winning margin for the Bucs. Grace Collins, Alyssa Goldsmith, Tabor and Brooke Asher opened the frame with four straight singles to plate three runs and cut the lead to 8-4. One out later, Jessica Bevlin was hit by a pitch from FSC starter Christine Clark (12-6) and Amber Durkin followed with a single to score pinch runner Shenique Rosario. Natalia Ojeda singled to load the bases with one out. The Moccasins made a fatal error on the ensuing play as catcher Heather Raulerson came off the plate before catching the ball on a ground ball to second by Sarah Broeseker. Bevlin came in to make it 8-6. Collins trimmed the lead to one, 8-7 on a n infield single to short that kept the bases loaded. Goldsmith grounded out to third and Ojeda trotted home with the tying run to set up Tabor’s decisive blow.

Bevlin (5-0) picked up her second straight conference win in relief, working 5.1 innings behind Paula Mackin. Bevlin allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks. Clark, who won game one on Friday, took the loss in the complete game. She allowed 12 hits, 10 runs (six earned), walked one and struck out three.

In the rubber game, Tabor again struck the deciding blow, this time in the first inning, smacking a two-run homer off Mocs’ starter Liana Derringer (3-4). Ojeda added an RBI single in the second inning and Brianna Smith (12-5) made the runs stand up. She allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks and struck out four.

Derringer worked five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks and struck out three.

The Bucs take the next week off before returning to Buccaneer Field to face Nova Southeastern on Friday-Saturday, Apr. 1-2.
