MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s tennis earned their second-straight South Region I Championship on Monday afternoon, beating the West Florida Argonauts 5-1 at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

In doubles action, the Bucs took two matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. In the third flight, Julie Stas and Olivia Matuszak made short work of Yana Bakareva and Naomi Higa, winning 8-2. The team took five of the last six games to take the win.

In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Alex Gwizdowski and Laura Boguet beat Luiza Sonnervig and Jacqueline March 8-5. In the final game, the Bucs were down 40-30, but took the final three points to take the game and set.

Barbi Pocza and Angie Werschel dropped their doubles match at the top flight, falling 8-6 to Taylor Brewster and Caitlyn Baines. Though the Bucs broke West Florida early at 1-1 to go up 2-1, they were unable to hold off a late Argonaut charge, dropping the last two games.

Moments later, Mona Mansour beat Higa 6-2, 6-0 to put the Bucs within a point of their second-straight South Region I title.
