COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers got on the winning side for the first time this season with a 2-0 blanking of the West Georgia Wolves in women’s soccer action from Columbus State’s Walden Soccer Complex on Friday.

In the 13th minute, Haley Struthers slipped a pass through the center of the Wolves’ (1-2-0) defense to a wide open Emma Karp who connected from 10 yards out for the game-winner.

Karp assisted Madrid in the 33rd minute when her shot bounced off the hands of UWG’s keeper Mary Laza and straight to Madrid who tapped it in for the final tally.

The Bucs (1-2-0) out-shot the Wolves 18-2 and led 7-2 in corners. Becca Rogers (1-2-0) picked up her first win in goal with a scoreless first half, while Emily Brunnschweiler mopped up in the second and did not face a shot. Defender Zeina Cline made the only save of the day for Barry on a shot by West Georgia’s Cydney Raymond in the fourth minute. Laza had five saves for the Wolves.

The Bucs will face the host Cougars of Columbus State on Sunday, Sept. 11 at noon before returning to Miami.
