VALDOSTA, Ga.—Mona Mansour fell 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 to Lynn's Iona Ivans in the Finals of the ITA South Regional Tournament on Sunday. 

Women's Tennis Player Reaches Finals 

VALDOSTA, Ga.—Mona Mansour advanced to the semi-finals of the ITA South Region Tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over teammate Caroline Wendling on Saturday.

Mansour went on to beat Florida Tech's Katarina Huba, the second seed, 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the finals on Sunday.

Mansour is the first Buccaneer singles player to reach the finals since Ildiko Csordas in 2007. Csordas advanced to the nationals, where she finished sixth.

The tournament concludes on Sunday. The winners advance to the ITA Small College Nationals in Mobile, Ala.

Three Buccaneers reach Quarterfinals at ITA Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry women’s tennis team ran three players into the quarterfinals at the ITA South Region Tournament, but only two can advance to the semifinals as teammates Mona Mansour and Caroline Wendling will meet on Saturday.

Mansour advanced by beating Kristina Martic of New Orleans 6-3, 6-2 and fifth-seeded Sabine Kruse of Lynn 7-5, 1-6, 10-5. Wendling knocked off Rollins’ Ashley Rosenberg 6-2, 6-2 and Emily Singleton of Saint Leo 6-4, 6-2. The pair will meet Saturday morning in the semifinals.

Cristina Valladares beat Manuela Gomez of UNO 6-0, 6-1, and Lynn’s Andrea Berkova 2-6, 6-2. She will face Lynn’s Iona Ivans in the semifinals.

Akemi Maehama beat Rollins’ Elissa DeCampli 6-2, 6-1, but fell to West Florida’s Luisa Sonnervig 7-6 (4), 6-0 in the round of 16.

In the consolation bracket, Julie Stas advanced by beating Callie Whitlock of Rollins 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, Valladares and Wendling beat Lisa Loft and Kelli Ragsdale of Rollins 8-6, but lost to third seed Caitlin Baines and Barbara Olivera 8-2 in the quarterfinals.

Women's Tennis Delivers Highlight On First Day Of ITA Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Barry women’s tennis team provided the highlight of the day as the ITA South Regional Tournament began at Valdosta State on Thursday. Unranked rookie Cristina Valladares upended top seed Sabine Goge of Florida Southern to advance to the round of 32.

Valladeras (left) started the day with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Eckerd’s Erika Fridik, and then dispatched Goge 6-4, 6-3 to advance.

Teammates Akemi Maehama, Mona Monsour, and third-seeded Caroline Wendling joined Valladares in advancing. Maehama blew out Eckerd’s Taylor Bullock 6-1, 6-0, while Monsour blanked Triton Gipson Hawn 6-0, 6-0. Wendling motored past West Florida’s Mariana Sonnervig 6-1, 6-3.

Liz Vargas beat Palm Beach Atlantic’s Veena Vasquez 6-1, 7-5 in the first round, but fell 7-5, 6-4 to Saint Leo’s Jeannette McDonald in the second. After a first-round bye, Julie Stas caught sixth-seed Iona Ivans of Lynn in the second round and fell 6-3, 6-1. She drops to the consolation bracket.

In doubles, Valladares and Wendling advanced to the round of 16, beating Saint Leo’s McDonald and Adrianna Daskewicz 8-6.  

Monsour and Stas defeated Bullock and Fridik of Eckerd 8-0 in the first round, but fell to Lynn’s Andrea Berkova and Ana Kriz 8-3 in the second. Maehama and Vargas drew a first-round bye, but fell to West Florida’s Marianna Sonnervig and Sheila Smiley 8-3 in the second.

The tournament continues Friday and concludes on Sunday. The winners advance to the ITA Small College Nationals in Mobile, Ala.
