LAKELAND, Fla.—The Barry University women’s soccer team fell 3-1 at the feet of Florida Southern Saturday night at Barnett Field.

The Buccaneers set the pace in the early going by striking first when Emma Karp connected on her fourth goal of the season. The goal came in the 21st minute when Karp corralled a loose ball and was able to find the back of the net.

The Bucs would see the 1-0 lead into the half but the second half would turn out to be a completely different story. Early in the second half the Mocs were able to tie up the score when Kara Moore struck the left side of the post and saw the ball slide across the line. This seemed to quickly change the momentum in favor of Florida Southern and the Mocs capitalized less than two minutes later when Kirra Rainbow was able to put a centering pass on the back post to give the Mocs the lead.

However the Buccaneers continued to battle and saw a few scoring opportunities but the ball did not bounce the Bucs way on this crisp night. The Mocs added a late goal in the 86th minute to just about seal the victory and drop the Buccaneers to 4-5-1, 1-2-0 in SSC play.

Melissa Toledo, making her fourth start of the season, amassed double digits saves (12) but it wouldn’t prove to be enough as the Mocs offensive attack was relentless in the second half.

The Buccaneers will now head home as they will host Florida Tech (#5) on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Buccaneer’s athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
