DAVIE, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team dropped a Sunshine State Conference match to the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Tuesday evening. The Bucs fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22.

Though the Bucs struck first in set number one, the Sharks took three straight for a 3-1 lead in the early going. Up 11-9, the Sharks took four straight to take a six point lead to go up 15-9. Barry took the next three with the help of a pair of Tania Torres kills and a Libby Walter ace. Facing a 19-15 deficit, the Bucs stormed back, taking four-straight points to tie it at 19-19. Torres had three kills in the run while Mima Hajdukovic added one as well. Yet the Sharks proved too much, taking the first set 25-21.

In the second set, the Bucs and Sharks were even through 3-3 before Novas took a pair of points for a 5-3 lead. Down 7-6, Barry turned the tides, however, taking three straight off a pair of kills and a Shark error, for an 8-7 lead. The Sharks regained the lead at 12-11, and outscored Barry 13-8 down the stretch to take a 25-19 win in set two. Down 23-16, Barry did have a four-point run that included a Torres kill, but were unable to hold off the Nova Southeastern offense.

Barry jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set with the help of a pair of Shark errors and a kill apiece by Torres and Jade Beavers. The Sharks jumped right back in it, however, taking eight of the next nine points for a 9-5 lead. The Bucs tied it up at 16-16 and took a 17-16 lead off a Lanie Muys kill. The teams traded points back-and-forth through 19-19 before the Sharks used a 6-3 run to take the third set 25-22.

For the Buccaneers, Torres had 10 kills while Muys had eight and Mariana Lisboa chipped in with seven. Hajdukovic paced the offense with 23 assists and Lisboa led the defense with 18 digs.
