Women's Basketball Excavates Win Over Orediggers

GOLDEN, Colo.—Jennifer Mitchell sunk a three-pointer with 0:03.7 seconds left to left the Barry Buccaneers over the Colorado-Mines Orediggers 51-48 in the Regis Thanksgiving Classic at CSM’s Lockridge Arena on Saturday.

The Buccaneers (2-3) led 21-17 at the half, but the Orediggers (1-5) opened the second period with a 10-0 run, capped by three-pointer by Katie Clements with 16:05 left which gave CSM a 27-21 lead.

The rest of the half went back and forth with both teams building leads, only to see the opposition make a run of their own.

Mines led 46-42 after a three-point play by Tory Langas with 2:34 remaining. After an exchange of baskets made it 48-46, Shanna Suttington and Mitchell took over for the Bucs, scoring the last sefven points of the contest. Suttington made a jumper off and in-bounds play then, after a steal by Danielle DeBerry, converted a fast-break layup to knot the game at 48-48.

After a missed three-pointer by Angie Charchalis gave the ball back to the Bucs, Mitchell nailed her trey from 24 feet for the winner and Mines was unable to get a shot off on their last possession.

Suttington led the Bucs with 18 points, 13 in the second half. Mitchell and Yvonne Houston each chipped in 10 points. Charchalis led Mines with 14 points, while Allie Grazulis added 10.

The Bucs return to South Florida and open Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 pm at Nova Southeastern’s University Center. Livestats and video stream will be provided by the Sharks.
