Buccaneers Men's Tennis Storm Past Florida Southern

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 win over No. 23 Florida Southern College Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The No. 2-ranked Bucs were tested in two of the three doubles matches, but picked up a pair of 8-6 wins by Daniel Schmidt and Ollie Lemaitre at No. 1, and Marco Mokrzycki and Kevin Sielmann at No. 2. Schmidt and Lemaitre beat Ivan Marevic and Jorge Gutierrez at the top flight. Mokrzycki and Sielmann got the better of Benoit Paradis and Carl Lundberg at No. 2 doubles.

Romain Costamagna and Francisco Sigaud beat Nathan Leavitt and Emanuel Lueber, 8-2, at No. 3.

Mokrzycki rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Paradis at No. 1 singles. Schmidt beat Marevic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Costamagna beat Lueber, 6-2, 7-6 (4) at No. 3. Sielmann beat Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch and Leo Vivas both endured first-set 7-5 victories to win in straight sets at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles flights, respectively. Groetsch beat Leavitt, 7-5, 6-2. Vivas beat Lundberg, 7-5, 6-0.

Barry will host Embry-Riddle Sunday at 10 a.m.
