Women's Tennis Sweeps ERAU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team opened the season Sunday with a 9-0 win over Embry-Riddle at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The No. 4-ranked Buccaneers (1-0) picked up a pair of 6-1, 6-2 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots on a day the NCAA Division II national champs won every match in straight sets.

Barry's Linda Fritschken beat ERAU's Ekaterina Kamendova at No. 2. Caroline Wendling beat Rocio Frej Vitalle at No. 3. Barry's No. 1 Vojka Lukic and No. 5 Julie Stas endured 7-5 sets in picking up victories over Yi Ching Chen and Josefine Storm, respectively.

Olivia Matuszak breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kristina Marova at No. 4. Sarah Krohnen defeated Paola Montero, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles flight.

Lukic and Fritschken beat Chen and Storm, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Krohnen and Cristina Valladares beat Kamendova and Vitalle, 8-4, at No. 2 pairs. Matuszak and Stas stormed to an 8-1 win over Marova and Montero at the No. 3 spot.

Barry plays at Saint Leo Saturday at 9 a.m. to open Sunshine State Conference play.
