MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 4-ranked women's tennis team won all of its singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern Saturday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The Bucs (4-0, 3-0 SSC) won two of the three doubles matches, including freshmen Vojka Lukic and Linda Fritschken's 8-3 win over No. 20 Sabine Goge and Magda Riutort at the top flight. Barry's Julie Stas and Cristina Valladares beat Olivia Spagnuolo and Jessica Cove, 8-3, at No. 2 pairs.
Lukic beat Goge, who was ranked 57th nationally in Division II singles, 6-1, 6-3. Fritschken beat Riutort, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2. Olivia Matuszak beat Spagnuolo, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3.
Sarah Krohnen rolled by Christine Nunnemann, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. No. 24 nationally-ranked Caroline Wendling breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Crystal Copeland at No. 5. Eighth-ranked Mona Mansour beat Jill Doerfler, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.
Barry hosts Tampa at 10 a.m. Sunday in another SSC matchup.
