DECATUR, Ala.—The Barry Buccaneers continued their pitching dominance at the UAH Charger Chillout on Saturday, tossing a pair of shutouts to run their winning streak to seven games. The Bucs shutout third-ranked North Georgia 1-0 then came back in the nightcap to shutout West Georgia 6-0. The Bucs have thrown four straight shutouts in the tournament.

In the first game, the Bucs overcame a 13-strikeout performance by 2011 national pitcher of the year, Jessica Coan of North Georgia for a 1-0 win.

Grace Collins delivered an RBI single with Amber Durkin on second base in the third inning for the only run of the game.

The Saints (8-1) had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. But Barry hurler Brianna Smith (5-1) shut down the rallies each time to post her third shutout of the season. All three of her shutouts have come in 1-0 games (#6 Valdosta State on Feb. 4; West Florida on Feb. 11).

Smith allowed five hits and a walk and struck out eight. Coan (5-1) gave up four hits and walked one.

In the nightcap, the Bucs (11-2) scored twice in the second and four in the sixth to knock off the Wolves (3-3).

Alexis Yohe (4-1) threw her second complete game and first shutout. She allowed just three hits and a walk and struck out nine.

The Bucs loaded the bases in the second with no outs. Natalia Ojeda worked a walk to force in the first run and Sarah Broeseker’s fielder’s choice scored another before UWG pitcher Antoinette Diaz (1-2) shut down the rally.

Barry finally broke through in the sixth. Amber Durkin reached on an error and Ojeda drew a walk. Broeseker reached on a bunt single to load the bases and Collins laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to plate Durkin. Ojeda came home when Diaz flipped the ball past catcher Lindsey Ellenberg. Alyssa Goldsmith followed with a two-run triple to make the final margin.

Diaz allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks.

The Bucs close out the tournament on Sunday with a single game at 1:00 pm Eastern time against Kentucky Wesleyan, weather permitting. Livestats and audio broadcasts are available through GameCentral on GoBarryBucs.com.
