MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The Buccaneer women’s tennis team continued their tremendous start as they swept all nine matches versus West Alabama Tuesday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Bucs (16-0) broke the school record for most consecutive wins to open a season by dominating the Tigers from the get-go.

Cristina Valladares teamed up with Mona Mansour in the first flight doubles en route to an impressive 8-0 victory.

Julie Stas and Sarah Krohnen also swept their doubles match, 8-0, and Linda Fritschken and Akemi Maehama finished the complete win in doubles by ousting Emily Gerding and Courtney McDonald, 8-1.

Singles action was more of the same as the Buccaneers continued to roll. Valladares, ranked 48th, defeated Cardenas, 6-1, 6-0 at first flight.

At number two, Sarah Krohnen defeated Angy Cuellar, 6-3, 6-0, and Julie Stas cruised past Lisa Becker 6-0, 6-1 at number three.

Akemi Maehama improved her overall record to 9-0 after defeating Dasha Popova, 6-0, 6-1 at number four, while No. 49 Caroline Wendling won in decisive fashion, 6-0, 6-0 over Emily Gerding at number five. The win for Wendling was her 66th, moving her ahead of Bojana Miladinovic into sole possession of fifth place on the Buccaneers' all-time wins list. Vanessa Campello (1995-98) is fourth with 68, while Greta Trotman (2003-06) has the record at 73.

Playing at the sixth flight and completing the Buccaneer sweep, Lizbeth Vargas defeated Courtney McDonald, 6-2, 6-0.

Barry will host Rollins College April 1 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center with the match set to begin at 10 a.m.
