PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers celebrated their number four national ranking with a pair of impressive shutout wins over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Lake Catherine Sports Complex on Wednesday night, winning 8-0 in six innings and 6-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, Brianna Smith (16-3) tossed her 10th shutout of the season and Sarah Broeseker went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI to pace the win.

The Bucs (30-5) scored two in the first, as Jessica Tabor had an RBI single, and tacked on three in the second, all off Sailfish starter Lauren Bubeck (5-7), as Broeseker smacked a two-run homer and Alyssa Goldsmith had and RBI single.

In the sixth, Natalia Ojeda walked and Broeseker had a bunt single. Collins knocked in Ojeda with a single. Goldsmith laced a ball down the right-field line that was ruled a ground-rule double to score Broeseker and Tabor had a groundout as Collins scored to make the 8-0 final.

Smith scattered five hits in the six-inning complete game and did not walk a batter, though she struck out just two. For Smith, it was her seventh shutout in her last eight starts. Bubeck took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks in just two innings.

In the nightcap, Alexis Yohe faced the minimum 21 batters in a one-hit shutout and tied her career high with 12 strikeouts. Goldsmith provided the offense with a pair of home runs, her first two of the season, and drove in three.

The Bucs did most of their damage in the first inning off Marry Pippin (12-9) rapping out six hits, four for extra bases. Collins had a double and Goldsmith followed with a two-run homer. After Tabor singled, Amber Durkin knocked her in with a triple to left field. Kelly Martinez followed with an RBI single and stole second. She scored ahead of a double by Kayla Monroy.

Goldsmith added a solo shot in the second inning to complete the scoring.

Yohe (11-2) was perfect through three before Kara Anderson had an infield single to lead off the fourth. She was thrown out trying to steal by Monroy and Yohe retired the last 14 Sailfish in a row. She struck out the side in the third and fifth innings and had six straight from the fourth to the sixth. Pippin took the loss. She went the distance allowing six runs on 11 hits. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

The Bucs will host the 12th-ranked Tampa Spartans Friday and Saturday in a crucial Sunshine State Conference series. With the two teams tied at 11-1 for the league lead, the winner will have the inside track to the conference title. Friday’s single game starts at 6:00 pm, while the doubleheader on Saturday begins at noon.
