Men's Tennis Knocks Over New Orleans

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry completed its three-day weekend trip through Central Florida with an abbrieviated 5-1 win over New Orleans at Rollins College Sunday.

The No. 3 Buccaneers went 2-1 on the trip, and leave with a 16-3 overall mark. They will compete in the White Sands Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., next weekend.

Barry's last home match is April 11 versus Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn.

The Bucs opened a 2-1 lead after doubles. Fabian Groetsch and Daniel Schmidt beat  Dominik Kardell and Daniel Populus, 8-2, at No. 2 pairs. At the No. 3 duo, Ollie Lemaitre and Romain Costamagna beat Vinay Kamineni and David Malmgren, 8-1. The Bucs dropped the top pairs flight when New Orleans Ricardo Campos and Hossam Meligy beat Marco Mokrzycki and Leo Vivas, 8-6.

Mokrzycki rebounded from a tough loss Saturday to beat Campos convincingly, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles spot.

"Marco played really good today," Bucs assistant coach Thomas Hipp said.

Groetsch defeated Yoshi Ysa, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Lemaitre beat Malmgren, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 5 singles to wrap up the victory.

Three matches were left unfinished, the Bucs leading in all of them, after the match was halted once Barry secured the team's fifth and deciding point.

"The guys showed character after yesterday's devastating loss," Hipp said.
