MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis team received Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honors after posting a 3.55 cumulative grade point average for the 2011-12 school year.
The ITA award is open to NCAA teams who record a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above for the academic year.
Additionally, five Buccaneer players received Scholar-Athlete awards for acheiving individual GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Seniors Caroline Wendling and Julie Stas and sophomores Akemi Maehama and Olivia Matuszak all received the individual award open to student-athletes who meet the minimum GPA requirement and are enrolled at the school for at least two semesters.
Wendling carried a 3.85 in management. She went 17-3 in singles and 15-1 in doubles in 2012. Stas had a 3.94 in international studies. She was 15-3 in singles and 23-3 in doubles.
Maehama posted a 3.78 in physical education. She had an 11-0 singles record and 4-0 doubles mark. Matuszak recorded a 3.95 in public relations. She went 13-3 in singles and 16-4 in doubles.
