Women's Soccer Falls To Spartans In Non-Conference Match

TAMPA—The Barry Buccaneers dropped their second straight, falling 3-1 to the Tampa Spartans at Pepin Stadium on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Spartans (7-2-0) scored three times in 21 minutes in the second half to break the game open, with Lauren Moore, Gabby Russo and CiCi Gonzalez connecting for goals.

Lauren Manna again accounted for the only goal for the Bucs (3-3-0) in the 87th minute with an assist from Sara Karna.

Becca Rogers had three saves for the Bucs, but fell to 3-3 on the season in goal. Kori Buttfield stopped two shots for the Spartans who held a 24-5 edge in shots.

The was part of the Sunshine State Conference's "+4" format this season and will not count in conference standings. The teams will play their conference match on Oct. 2 at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., next Saturday to face the Eckerd Tritons as part of the doubleheader with the men's team.
