ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—Tied with Armstrong Atlantic heading into the final round, the second-ranked Barry Buccaneers fired a 302 to drop into second place at the Jay Jennison Memorial tournament hosted by Flagler College at The Palencia Club on Tuesday.
Senior Marcus Segerstrom held up his end, completing a 76-69-70—215 (-1) tournament that left him the only golfer in the 55-man field to shoot under par. It was Segerstrom’s first individual medal and the second week in a row that a Buccaneer walked away with the low score.
Armstrong’s Pirates shot a 285-300-298—883 to take the team trophy. They were led on the final round by Cory Griffin’s 69, the low score for the round. The Bucs were four strokes back at 294-291-302—887, while Coker (302-304-299—905) was third and Newberry (294-300-317—911) and Saint Leo (294-307-310—911) tied for fourth.
Jared Dalga clocked in tied for fifth for the Buccaneers after rounds of 74-72-76—222. Scott Smyers was four strokes back after shooting 71-76-79—226 to finished 13th. Marcelo Huarte (76-75-77—228) and Berry Jole (73-75-87—235) finished tied for 16th and 35th respectively.
Three teams, Montevallo, Eckerd and sixth-ranked Lynn teed off from the wrong marker on the tee box and were disqualified from the first round, leaving all three teams and 15 golfers unable to score in the tournament.
The Bucs will next play in the Guy Harvey Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern at PGA National in two weeks.
