Women's Soccer Falls to 22nd-Ranked Spartans

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 2-1 to the 22nd-ranked Tampa Spartans at Buccaneer Field on Tuesday night.

The Spartans (9-3-0, 3-1-0 SSC) struck twice in the first half, including a penalty kick by Lauren Moore just 4:00 minutes into the game. CiCi Gonzalez scored in the 20th minute on a rebound after her own shot.

The Bucs (3-5-0, 1-3-0 SSC) got on the board in the 62nd minute. Freshman Lavinia Nkomo sent in a cross from the right side and fellow rookie Kayla Hodge chipped Tampa keeper Kori Butterfield to the far post for her first career goal.

Butterfield had one save for Tampa, while Becca Rogers had a career-high 10 saves for the Bucs, as Tampa held a 24-6 edge in shots.

The Bucs host the Rollins Tars on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 pm. They will recognize and honor their three national championship teams at half time.
