Maehama, Miro Collect 4 Singles Wins at Women's Tennis Tourney
Isabela Miro moved on to the semifinals of the Varner Memorial Invitational with three singles wins in the B Flight.

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis players Akemi Maehama and Isabela Miro combined to win four singles matches Saturday at the Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College.

Miro, a sophomore transfer from Oklahoma State, beat Austin Lavalli of Nova Southeastern, 6-2, 6-1 before outlasting Armstrong Atlantic State's Jennifer Rink, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6. She also had a quarterfinals win over Rollins' Ashley Rosenberg, winning 6-4, 6-0 to reach Sunday's 8 a.m. semifinal, where she will play Central Florida's Josephine Haraldson in Flight B singles main draw.

Maehama beat Bethune-Cookman's Sherree Peterson-Paul, 6-3, 6-4, before losing to Lynn's Andrea Berkova, 6-3, 6-3.

The Buccaneers duo lost their doubles match, 8-6, to Central Florida's Jenna Doerfler and Ann-Sophie Porry.
