MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team defeated Eckerd College in the regular season finale, 3-0, Saturday night.

Eckerd (7-8-2, 4-3-1 SSC) was a step behind the Buccaneer attack for most of the game as the Tritons were out-shot by the Bucs 20-9.

Barry (5-10-1, 1-6-1 SSC) struck first in the 36th minute of the match connecting on a pair of passes from Lucas Rio Torto and Thomas Coombes.

After making a move around a defender, Rio Torto found Coombes in the middle of the Tritons defense. Coombes then slipped a pass to Patrick Drmola who gave the Bucs the early 1-0 advantage with his second goal of the season.

Heading out of the break with a 1-0 lead, the Bucs continued to apply pressure. Following a pair of crosses by the Tritons on a corner kick opportunity, goalkeeper Edwin Jean punched the ball out of harm’s way up to Thomas Coombes near the midfield line.

Coombes ran several yards with the ball before finding Drmola for the second time in the match and the same combination resulted in the Bucs’ second goal of the game.

With a comfortable 2-0 lead, Barry remained in control of the game throughout, and in the 74th minute Cris Sevieri sealed the victory with his first goal of the season. Kris Wilkinson found Cris Sevieri on the far post on a Buccaneer corner, and the sophomore defender found the back of the net for his fist goal of the season.

With just over three minutes to play, Jean fired out of the box to coral a ball before the Tritons could get a shot away, making a spectacular play and preserving the Buccaneer shutout.

Nine seniors were honored prior to the start of the game. With six of the seniors earning a start and Edwin Jean came off the bench, contributing to the Buccaneer victory. Those seniors honored but not participating due to injury include Johnny Rodrigues and Christian Yidios.

With just a few minutes left in the game, Houghton Kinsman and Kendall Sealy received an ovation from the 179 fans in attendance. Joe Conkleton also finishes a spectacular four-year career ranking second all-time in minutes played in program history.
