MIAMI -- Barry's Akemi Maehama and Linda Fritschken both won singles matches over NCAA Division I opponents Friday at the Florida International University Panther Invitational women's tennis tournament.

Maehama beat Ball State's Paola Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 3 singles bracket to advance to Saturday's 3 p.m. semifinals. Fritschken beat fellow Cardinal Ayaka Terashi, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 1 singles draw, to advance to Saturday's 1:30 p.m. semis.

Fritschken and Buccaneers teammate Isabela Miro lost to Youngstown State's Marta Burak and Margarita Sadovnikova, 8-6, in the opening round of the Flight 1 doubles draw. Barry's duo will play at 9 a.m. Saturday in the consolation bracket.

Miro was entered to play in the No. 4 singles draw, but was lifted for precautionary reasons in a match she defaulted to FIU's Magali Holt.

This is the final event of the fall season for the Buccaneers during the individual tournaments.
