Rowing 4+ A Crew 7th at Head of Hooch

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Barry University rowing's 4+ A crew finished seventh out of 36 boats in the Head of the Hooch Women's Championship race Saturday.

The Bucs crew of coxswain Angela Dasch, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Anna Boada, Bethany Desmond and bow Kelly Harrison crossed the finish line in 18:26.8 in a prestigious meet featuring top schools from all over the country. Duke's A squad had the fastest time in the race in 17:46.1. The University of Miami's A team was second in 18:12.9.

Barry's Championship 4+ B unit of cox Grace Horwitz, stroke Kasia Walentynowicz, Mandy Carper, Helene Pierre and bow Rebekah Kilroy finished 12th in 18:55.8.

The Buccaneers Novice 4+ team of cox Iris Blandon, stroke Miriam Zaga, Gabrielle Lara, Nicole Madison and bow Gesireth Mariscal competed for the first time as a Barry team, placing 26th out of 34 teams with a time of 23:18.1. Tulsa's A unit took first in 19:24.5. Eastern Michigan's A team was second in 19:57.8. Samford was third in 20:01.2.

Barry's Open 8 crew of Horwitz, Boncheva, Boada, Desmond, Harrison, Carper, Pierre, Emma Howard and Walentynowicz will race Sunday.
