MIAMI SHORES Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers snapped back into the win column on Wednesday night, as they clawed out a 64-61 victory over the Florida Southern Moccasins in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball action in the Health & Sports Center.
The Bucs (11-8, 3-7 SSC) took a 10-9 lead on a three-pointer by Dominique Dixon with 15:11 left in the first half and held the lead until the 6:43 mark of the second period when Alexis Hochstetler tied it for the Mocs at 53-53 with a pair of free throws.
Barry led 53-45 at the 9:45 mark after a Jackie Perez layup. But Hochstetler’s free throws were part of 10-0 run that put the Mocs up 55-53 at the 5:46 mark. After a Colette Eule trey gave the Bucs back the lead at 56-55, the teams swapped baskets until Barry went up 62-59 on a bucket by Kaley Howard with 2:10 remaining. A basket by Melanie Ducott cut the lead the one, but Dixon hit two free throws with 0:10 seconds left to seal the win for the Bucs.
Tyler Hardy led the Bucs with 13 points and seven boards, while Dixon chipped in 12 points and Perez added 10. Southern’s Hochstetler led everyone with 18 points, but fouled out with 4:21 left, and Morgan Lamberg added 14 points.
The Bucs travel this Saturday to Saint Leo to face the Lions.
