Baseball Bounces Back With Win Over Panthers

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Barry University’s baseball team defeated Florida Tech University,11-9, Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup between the Sunshine State Conference foes.

Barry (8-3, 1-2 SSC) was able to get back on track after dropping the final two games to the Panthers at Feinbloom Field over the weekend.

The Buccaneers got the scoring started with three runs in the third inning capped off by Luis Arrizurieta’s RBI single to right.

Florida Tech (8-3, 2-1 SSC) answered with a run of their own in the third and two more in the fourth inning to tie the game at three.

Arrizurieta’s RBI single in the fifth gave the Bucs the lead once again, 4-3. Tyler Kellmann belted an RBI double and Tim Blackmon followed with an RBI single to plate Kellmann as the Bucs jumped ahead once again by three.

Freshman Mike Diaz stepped in with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and delivered a bases-clearing triple.

Barry added a pair of runs in the eighth inning that proved to be important as the Panthers’ bid at a comeback fell short, 11-9.

Billy Atkins started for the Buccaneers and tossed four innings. He allowed just three runs and struck out four.

Adrian Benitez picked up the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings in which he did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out two.

Tyler Kinley also threw a scoreless seventh inning and struck out two.

 Sheehan Planas-Arteaga led the Bucs’ offense with a 3-for-4 night including 3 runs and 2 RBI.

Adrian English extended his hitting streak to eleven straight games with a base hit to center in the eighth.

Barry now travels to Huntsville, Ala. this weekend for a four-game series beginning Friday  against No. 22 ranked Chargers. Live-stat and audio broadcast coverage is available through the Barry University Athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
