Broeseker and Mackin Make Academic All-Region Team

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--Barry University softball players Sarah Broeseker and Paula Mackin were named to the 2013 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-South Region team. They now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America^® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Broeseker, an infielder, led the Bucs and the Sunshine State Conference with a .423 average. She scored 32 runs, drove in 32 runs and led the team with 13 doubles, four triples and 19 extra base hits. She carries a 3.67 GPA in pre-professional biology and plans to attend medical school. She ranks in the top-10 in 12 school career offensive categories, including second in doubles, third in total bases, fourth in hits, eighth in RBI and 10^th in runs scored. Her community service includes MCCL tent Light the Night, Breast Cancer Walk and Light the Night Walk for Leukemia.

Mackin, a designated player, has been with the Bucs for five years after a medical red-shirt in 2009. She has a 3.64 GPA in chemistry. She is one of only a handful of four-time scholar All-Americans, having been selected by the NFCA in each of her first four years.
