Barry to Compete at NCAA Rowing Championships Friday-Sunday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's rowing crew leaves Tuesday for Indianapolis, where they will compete Friday-Sunday at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Both of Barry's Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats will compete in the championships at Eagle Creek Park, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Watch Friday's action from the NCAA Rowing Championships by clicking HERE.

Barry's 8 is scheduled to race at 9:45 a.m. Friday with the Bucs 4 to follow.

"We're definitely excited for the opportunity to go race at the national championships," Buccaneers coach Dave Sanderson said. "Every year, the chance to participate for the student-athletes is a great experience."

Barry is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the USRowing/College Rowing Coaches Association poll.

The Bucs 8 of coxwain Gracie Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Anna Boada, Rosita Boncheva, Monika Kaminska, Beth Desmond, Anais Foppoli, Emma Howard and bow Kelly Harrison will row against UC-San Diego and Central Oklahoma in Friday's first heat.

Barry's 4 of cox Angela Dasch, stroke Kasia Walentynowicz, Mandy Carper, Helene Pierre and bow Rebekah Kilroy will race against Nova Southeastern in its heat race.

"We've been working hard to prepare for it," Sanderson said. "We're looking forward to putting in our best race."
