Viva la Vivas: Men's Tennis Player on to Semifinals

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Leo Vivas took a quick glimpse at the video like he received on Instagram during his 6-2, 6-2 quarterfinals match win over Daniel Soyfer, of Plantation, Fla., at the Pembroke Lakes Championships Sunday at Pembroke Lakes Racquet Club.

Vivas gained a follower. Now he’ll need a few more as the Buccaneers senior meets power-hitting Mark Losev, of Sunny Isles Beach, at 1 p.m. Monday in the semifinals of the 50-player field that featured 11 Bucs.

Losev defeated Barry freshman Nico Dreer in the quarters, 7-5, 6-1.

Vivas beat Buccaneers teammate Renato Lombardi, 7-5, 6-4, in the Round of 16. Dreer was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Enrique Andrade of Boca Raton, Fla., in the Round of 16.

Barry's Ahmed Triki lost to Losev, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, in the Round of 16. Bucs sophomore Eduardo Alfonzo lost to Paul Tyagi, of Hollywood, Fla., 7-5, 6-3, in the same round. 

Barry junior Kevin Sielmann defeated Greenwich, Conn., native Kyle Mautner to reach the consolation semifinals. Buccaneers freshman Austin Cruz lost to Alexander Gitin, of Boca Raton, 6-7 (1), 6-2. 10-5, in the consolation quarters. Bucs redshirt freshman Franco Echenique fell to Mautner, 6-3, 7-6 (6) in the consolation bracket.

 

RESULTS
