DAVIE, Fla.—The under-manned Barry Buccaneers gave the fourth-ranked and undefeated Nova Southeastern Sharks all they wanted on Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action from the Taft Center before falling 70-68.
The Sharks (13-0 4-0 SSC) had won their first 12 game by double-figures, the closest coming in a 77-64 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, before besting the Buccaneers by just a bucket.
Playing just seven players, due to a variety of circumstance, the Buccaneers (8-5, 1-3 SSC) actually led by six, 61-55, at the 7:48 mark of the second half after a layup by Tyler Hardy. But the Sharks responded with a 17-4 run over the next five minutes to take a 72-65 lead and held on by hitting four-of-six from the free throw line.
Kaylia Richardson led the Bucs with a career-high 20 points, while Hardy added 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Colette Eule had 18 points and seven boards.
Jasmine Wilkins matched Richardson with 20 points to lead the Sharks. Jessica Russi had 18 points and seven assists and Richelle Carach had 12 points.
The Bucs travel up to the McArthur Center on Saturday to face the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday.
