LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The third-ranked Barry Buccaneers eclipsed the No. 14 Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific, 9-0, in women’s action from UC San Diego’s Northview Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

The Bucs experimented in doubles, but still took all three. Elisabeth Abanda and Karina Goia, the Bucs’ 13th-ranked pair, stepped up from their customary No. 3 flight to play at No. 1, and defeated Petra Jurova and Angelika Sobiecka, 8-5. The Bucs normal No. 2 pair, Anaeve Pain and Kimmy Twelker, shut out Matilda Ackered and Alison Carre, 8-0, while first-time pairing Linda Fritschken and Blanka Szavay also won 8-0 over Laure-Anne Josso and Megan Lee.

At No. 2, the 31st-ranked Fritschken blanked Ackered, 6-0, 6-0. Akemi Maehama matched the feat at No. 6 with a win over Lee. Ninth-ranked Abanda and unranked Szavay also recorded straight-set wins -- Abanda at No. 4 over Carre, 6-2, 6-1, and Szavay at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3, over Josso.

The final two singles matches came down to third sets. Pain defeated Sobiecka, 4-6, 6-2, 10-1, at No. 3. At the top flight, 19th-ranked Goia pulled a mild upset, defeating the 14th-ranked Jurova, 1-6, 6-0, 10-6.

The Bucs close out their California trip on Thursday, in a match at No. 16 Azusa Pacific. The match can be found via LIVE STATS and LIVE STREAMING.
