Men's Tennis Trips up No. 2 Auburn-Montgomery

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's men's tennis team beat Auburn-Montgomery, 8-1, Thursday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The NCAA Division II No. 1-ranked Buccaneers (13-1) recovered from a loss to West Florida to handle NAIA's No. 2-ranked team in convincing fashion.

The Buccaneers won all three doubles matches. Kevin Sielmann and Renato Lombardi defeated Josh Reason and Othmane Lalami, 8-4, at No. 1. It was the first time the Bucs duo played at the top spot. Ollie Lemaitre and Ahmed Triki combined for an 8-2 win over Vincent Dubosclard and Francisco Mendieta at No. 2 pairs.

Barry's Romain Costamagna and Leo Vivas beat No. 2-ranked Miguel Grifol and Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff, 8-3.

The Buccaneers won five of the six singles matches. Fourth-ranked Pinones-Haltenhoff beat Barry's 12th-ranked Fabian Groetsch, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), at the top spot. Vivas, ranked No. 37, was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over ninth-ranked Zinelabidine Jouini at No. 2.

At No. 3, Costamagna defeated Dubosclard, 7-5, 6-0. Lemaitre beat 11th-ranked Lalami, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4. It was Lemaitre's first win over a ranked opponent this season. Lombardi defeated 14th-ranked Grifol, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5. It was Lombardi's first win over a ranked opponent this year as well.

Nico Dreer defeated Mendieta, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.

The Buccaneers will play No. 46 New York Tech next Thursday at 2 p.m.
