SKILLMAN, N.J. – Barry University men’s tennis player Ahmed Triki was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Rookie of the Year, and Fred Bonal was selected as the Assistant Coach of the Year.

Triki, a freshman from Tunis, Tunisia, has put together a 12-3 record at No. 1 singles, and is the No. 7-ranked player in the nation. He owns a 5-3 record against nationally-ranked opponents.

Along with senior Ollie Lemaitre, Triki forms the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the country. Together, they are 13-2 with a 12-2 mark at the No. 1 flight. Triki and Lemaitre are 1-0 against ranked opponents. In total, Triki is 20-4 in doubles play with multiple partners.

Bonal, in his first year as the lead assistant at Barry, has helped guide the Buccaneers to a 23-2 record and No. 3 ranking. The Buccaneers won the South Region 2, Sunshine State Conference Tournament and regular season titles. He worked as a volunteer coach last season with the Bucs, who captured the school’s first unbeaten season on the way to a national title.

Barry will play No. 10 Drury in the NCAA Division II Championships Round of 16 Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
