Abanda, Witherspoon Win at FIU Panther Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. – Barry University women’s tennis player Elisabeth Abanda beat Elizabeth Means of Florida Gulf Coast, 6-2, 7-5, in the B Draw third place match of the Florida International Panther Invitational Sunday.

In the C Bracket, Barry’s Jasi Witherspoon beat Nova Southeastern’s Alex Kaeser, 6-1, 6-2.

Barry’s Karina Goia fell to FIU’s Nina Nagode, 6-4, 6-2, in the B finals.

Barry’s Sonja Larsen lost to Florida Gulf Coast’s Breana Stampfli, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 for third place in the A Bracket.

Barry’s Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken will compete as a doubles team in the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor National Championships next weekend in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., to conclude the fall season. The indoor championships begin Thursday.
