Women's Soccer Bumped From SSC Tournament

MIAMI SHORES — Barry women’s soccer got bumped out of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament semifinals Friday as the Buccaneers fell in penalty kicks (5-4) to Tampa after battling to a 1-1 draw after two overtimes.

The Bucs struck first in the 15th minute as forward Lauren Manna chipped Tampa keeper Caroline Frykgard with a header from 15 yards out after a perfect pass by Ashley Harlan, landing the ball right where it needed to be for the senior to put it home. Rayah Seckler also had an assist on the Barry goal.

At halftime, the Bucs went in confident with a 1-0 lead, but in the second half things shifted in Tampa’s favor as Lauren Moore scored an unassisted goal in the 51st minute after a missed clearance by the Barry backline allowed her to take the shot.

In the penalty kick shootout, the two teams traded made attempt after attempt, until Barry misfired their fifth kick and Tampa then scored to oust the regular season champions.

The Bucs will have to wait until Monday to find out where they’ll be playing in the NCAA tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday night.
